Textural Analysis

This image is an example of alluvial conglomerate, poorly sorted angular pebbles in a fine grained matrix.

The high resolution of borehole images allows for specific feature analysis of a sediment or sedimentary rock such as the size, shape, orientation, and packing pattern of it's grains. These texture features are determined mainly by the small scale mechanisms operating during transportation, deposition, and early diagenesis of sedimentary materials. They are important factors for paleoenvironmental reconstruction.
