Oil-based Electrical Dipmeter Tools:
These tools can work in
non-conductive mud even though they employ the same principles as the electrical
imaging tools. In order to measure the borehole wall conductivity, protruding
buttons scratch through the resistive mud cake to contact the borehole wall directly.
Oil-based dipmeters are not reliable for fracture identification.
Another option in oil based muds is to use an induction dipmeter. These tools work
independantly of the borehole environment but have been proven less reliable than standard
oil based dipmeters.
The available tools are as follows:
4 button (
OBDT), 6 button (
SED,
Hexdip), 8 Button (
SHDT)
